2026 Boys Extended SeasonTryouts
We’re excited to announce tryouts for the 2026 Flight Academy Volleyball Club Extended Boys Season! If you're ready to compete with the best on the Central Coast or are looking to take your game to the next level this is your chance! We will be offering positions as Travel and Practice Players on the Travel teams as well as positions on our Practice Teams. There is an opportunity for everyone!
At this time, there are opportunities on the following travel teams:
16 Maverick - 1 travel player, 2 practice players
17 Maverick - 2 travel Player, 2 practice players
18 Maverick - 1 travel player, 1 practice player
A quick note on attendance:
In order for your athlete to have a fair chance to make a Team, they need to be at tryouts. Unfortunately, we won’t be offering makeup sessions. Even if you are unable to tryout (due to injury, still in High School Season, etc.) you still need to register for tryouts to be considered for the teams. If you are unable to participate in the tryout, it is recommended that you still attend and watch.
What is Extended Season?
Flight Academy Volleyball Club is a non-profit youth volleyball club that works with male and female athletes of all ages. This year marks the 6th season of operation for FAV and in our 6th season, we have 11 girls teams and 6 boys teams. Our boys teams are categorized by age group (14’s, 15’s, 16’s etc.) and then by Maverick (the A teams) or Iceman (the B teams). So our boy’s 15’s Maverick team is the 15 and under A team.
The Boys club season is split into Regular Season and Extended Season. Regular Season tryouts happen in late August and teams beginning their practices the first week in September. The Regular Season finishes in late January in time for high school volleyball season to begin. The Regular Season sees the end of the club season for our Iceman teams.
Once the regular high school season finishes in early May, our Maverick teams reconvene for the Extended Season. At this time, the Maverick teams have lost players due to injury or other circumstances and so we have our Extended Season tryouts to fill in the missing travel players as well as pick up additional practice players.
For any players who do not want to make the full commitment to the travel team, either as a travel or practice player, we also offer our Extended Season Practice teams, which give boys the opportunity to work with coaches in a practice setting for 7 weeks, and determine if they want to continue with club volleyball once the Regular Season Starts up again in August.

To determine which age group your athlete belongs in, we use USA Volleyball’s standard cutoff of July 1. Here’s how it breaks down:
Boys 14 & Under - Usually Middle Schoolers
Born on or after July 1st, 2011Boys 15 & Under - usually 9th graders
Born on or after July 1st, 2010Boys 16 & Under - usually 10th graders
Born on or after July 1st, 2009Boys 17 & Under - Usually 11th graders
Born on or after July 1st, 2008
Boys 18 & Under - Usually 12th graders
Born on or after July 1st, 2006

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT
Flight Academy is growing, but our purpose remains the same, to give Central Coast athletes the best possible volleyball experience, whether their goals include college volleyball or just developing through the sport.
