Chip Blaney is a highly respected volleyball coach and a pillar in the volleyball community on California’s Central Coast. With over a decade of experience across high school, collegiate, and club levels, Chip has built a reputation for developing athletes, elevating programs, and leading with clarity, consistency, and purpose.
His coaching journey began as a sophomore at San Luis Obispo High School, where he assisted the girls’ volleyball program while playing four years on the boys’ team. He was a three-year varsity athlete, earning 1st Team All-League and 3rd Team All-CIF Southern Section honors as a senior. He went on to play middle blocker for the men’s club team at Liberty University.
After returning to California, Chip quickly stepped into a head coaching role at St. Joseph High School, leading the varsity program for three seasons. He then took over the varsity program at Arroyo Grande High School, coaching six seasons between 2016–2018 and 2021–2023. During his tenure, AGHS secured three league titles and consistently ranked among the top 100 high school teams in California. In 2017, Chip began coaching with the Cal Poly Women’s Club team, competing in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation. In his first season, he led the team to the Division 1AA National Championship and was named NCCVL Conference Coach of the Year in 2018. He then joined Cal Poly’s NCAA Division 1 staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2019, contributing to a successful 21–9 season and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
That same year, Chip was invited to join the elite coaching staff at Gold Medal Squared (GMS) — one of the most highly respected volleyball education and training organizations in the country. Backed by decades of research and experience from Olympic coaches and professional players, GMS is known for its systematic, data-driven approach to team and skill development. Being selected to coach GMS clinics and team training sessions across the country is a recognition of both coaching excellence and a deep understanding of high-level performance. Chip has continued to represent GMS with distinction, delivering impactful training and helping athletes and programs nationwide elevate their play.
Since co-founding Flight Academy Volleyball in 2020, Chip has been instrumental in shaping the club’s foundation and culture. He coaches boys and girls across all age groups, emphasizing fundamentals, video analysis, leadership, and team standards. Whether working with travel or practice players, Chip sets high expectations and makes every athlete’s development a priority.
